Behandelt werden die historischen Aspekte der Beltstimme, der Belt Sound und die Belt Voice Technik, mit besonderem Augenmerk auf den ‘Broadway Belt.’
„Discussions concerning belting in musical theatre, at the same time a singing style and vocal technique, are vague within prominent academic circles. Recent research in belting attempts to analyse the acoustics of belted tones, to describe the belt sound, or to establish the most efficient pedagogy necessary to teach and learn belting. Elite Broadway belters of the 20th century exemplify crucial changes in Broadway musical theatre: their belt voices, their acting, and their dancing on stage changed significantly through the development of amplification and the original belt sound is not comparable to today’s requirements for a belt voice to succeed. This lecture concerns the first chapter of Christin Bonin’s dissertation "The Broadway Belt – Implications of Gender, Ethnicity and Social Order”, explaining belting, its origins, sound, and vocal technique, to approach a possible definition of belting, especially in its distinction to classical singing, and to guide to a better understanding of belting in musical theatre.“ |
