The core of the programme is the Master Project. The exposé for the project is developed during the first semester. The content, outlines, methods and objectives form the basis for further development in dialogue with mentors and fellow students, as well as through your research. After each semester, the development process is reflected in a presentation during the examination week.
The Master Colloquium enables students to focus on their artistic-creative orientation. It accompanies the production of their own artistic Master's Project, e.g. an artistic animated author's film or a scenographic moving image work. All students of the programme present current project outlines and proposals, discuss them with each other and receive additional feedback from guests and mentors. It takes place once a month.
Besides developing your own Master Project we will explore the topic of ‘Glitch’, the unexpected result of a malfunction occurring in computer games and other digital software. Glitch art often reveals the aesthetics inherent in digital formats. At its best, a glitch is an epiphany. A glitch could be seen as a contemporary phenomenon. But glitches also permeate analogue technology. We will explore the potential of imperfection, embrace failure, and use glitches to challenge the systems that control us.
Field trip:
Lucerne School of Design, Film and Art X Folkwang, 14.12 - 19.12.2024
Part of the project is a cooperation with the Master students from Lucerne School of Lucerne School of Design, Film and Art within a one-week workshop. The aim of the workshop is the development of an experimental audiovisual project. Through hands-on activities in small teams and group discussion, we will introduce basic AI or ANN (Artificial Neural Networks) technologies, and explore how these concepts can be applied to art and media production. AI acts as a machine for sampling fuzzy ideas in 2D, 2.5D and 3D. Take this great opportunity to work on location in beautiful pre-Crismas Switzerland or via Zoom. Please register for the travel until October 1 via email: kathi.kaeppel@folkwang-uni.de
